Defined: Rum’s in the 125-160 proof range are generally considered ‘overproof’. Typically 150 is required to be considered “strong” and therefore preferred by the fine connoisseur residents of the Caribbean and a necessary ingredient of rocket fuel.

Man, I wish I liked rum. There’s such a wide variety of drinks that contain rum that, rum aside, sound super fucking nice, but I can’t drink ‘em ‘cause the rum just doesn’t work with my tastebuds for whatever reason.

Shit I remember Stroh rum, the first time I ever tasted it I was 13 running around at a wedding sipping drinks off tables. Took a sip of Stroh and coke and it just tasted like burning lol.
On a related note, Dark and Stormy’s with Goslings 150 proof rum and Barrits ginger beer are fucking delicious.

If you like Whiskey then you should try Ron Zacapa, it’s something you’d like. Aged 23 years in Whiskey barrels... It’s quite tasty.

I never really got the point of overproof...in whiskey at least, 120 is about the upper limit of having flavor before alcohol burning dominates everything.

Whilst not an OP, sometimes I need a change from the usual Bourbons and Whiskies so I’ll have a glass of Mount Gay XO on the rocks. A friend of mine had a bottle of some other expensive Mount Gay that he picked up whilst on vacation and it seemed too good to use in mixed drinks and so I experimented by drinking it by itself - not bad at all. Being rum it’s a touch on the sweet side, but it’s just an occasional thing when I have a bit of a sweet tooth.

When I was younger my friends and I would have a drink called a Dr. Pepper in which you light a shot of Bacardi 151 on fire, drop it in a beer and chug it in one go. It was supposed to taste like the soda of the same name, but after a few of those all you could taste was the floor since that’s where you ended up...
